Insan Budi Maulana is Managing Partner and Head of Intellectual Property practice of the firm. He is actively involved in all aspects of Intellectual Property works, including protection of trademark, industrial design, copyright and patent as well as in the enforcement and litigation. He has been voted as a leading individual in intellectual property practice in Indonesia in The Asia Pacific Legal 500 – 2006/2007 editions.

Insan Budi Maulana is a member of Indonesian Bar Association (IKADIN), Association of Indonesian Intellectual Property Consultant(Asosiasi Konsultan HaKI Indonesia), International Association for the Protection of Industrial Property (AIPPI), Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA) andAssociation of Capital Market Legal Consultants (Himpunan Konsultan Hukum Pasar Modal/HKHPM). He is also a founder of Indonesian Intellectual Property Society (IIPS), Foundation of IP Studies in Indonesia (FIPSI) and Yayasan Klinik HAKI (IP Clinic).

Insan Budi Maulana graduated from Faculty of Law University of Indonesia (Sarjana Hukum) in 1986 and obtained his master degree (LL.M) from Faculty of Law, Kobe University Japan in 1992. He also holds doctorate degree from the Faculty of Law, Kobe University Japan (1998). Since November 2006, he has also been appointed as Professor of Business Law at Krisnadwipayana University Jakarta, where he teaches Intellectual Property Rights and Unfair Competition Law in the Master of Laws Program of the Faculty of Law Krisnadwipayana University, Jakarta. In addition, he teaches Business Environment and Commercial Law (Lingkungan Bisnis dan Hukum Komersial) in the Master of Accountancy Program at Faculty of Economics University of Indonesia (since 1999), Intellectual Property Rights in the Master of Notary Program at Faculty of Law University of Indonesia (since 2001) and Business Environment and Commercial Law in the Accounting Professional Education Program at Faculty of Economics University of Indonesia (since 2004), Institute Business and Information of Indonesia/IBII (since 2004). Insan Budi Maulana also served as an examiner of the Monbukagakusho Scholarship Program at the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia for the year 2003, 2005 and 2007.

In addition to his professional and teaching activities, Insan Budi Maulana serves as a Special Staff of the Minister of Justice/Member of Expert Committee of Department of Justice of the Republic of Indonesia (1998 – 2006). He has also been appointed as the member of Legal Expert Team of Department of Justice for the term 2004-2005 and 2005-2006. Insan Budi Maulana was actively involved in the drafting of Trade Secret, Design and Integrated Circuit Laws, as well as revisions or amendment of Copyright, Patent and Trademark Laws related regulations. In January – March 1995, Insan Budi Maulana served as a member of the drafting team of “Undang-Undang Kerahasiaan Informasi” (Undisclosed Information Act). He also served as Deputy Coordinator of the Drafting Member of Bill on Trademark Appeal Commission and Bill on Trademark Registration Procedures of the Directorate General of Intellectual Property Rights Department of Justice of the Republic of Indonesia (April 2003). Recently, he has been appointed by the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia as a Member Committee for the Drafting of Bill on Amendment to Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 14 Year 2001 concerning Patent. Additionally, in 2002 until 2005, Insan Budi Maulana served as a member of Film Censorship Agency of the Republic of Indonesia.

Insan Budi Maulana was a speaker in various onshore and offshore workshops, seminars or conference especially in the field of Intellectual Property Rights. He also attended various offshore and on shore workshop, seminars or conference in the field of Intellectual Property Rights. He was a Guest Researcher at MAX PLANCK INSTITUTE, Munich, Germany (August - September 1994; July - August 1996; and September - October 2001) and attended Certificate in Intellectual Property Rights Law Course at Queen Mary & Westfield College, University of London (October 1994 - January 1995), Patent Drafting Course, held by FICPI, Singapore (September 1996), American Institute for Legal Education for the Course of Study Orientation in U.S. Business Law (July - August 2001); Symposium on Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights and Patent Litigation in Munich (September 2001), Patent Consultant on the ASEAN-ROCKEFELLER Project for patent issues on pharmacology in the Philippines and Laos (May 2004), Focus Group Discussion on the Review on Ad-Hoc Judges of the Commercial Court, held by National Law Commission of the Republic of Indonesia and Steering Committee for the Establishment of Commercial Court and Corruption Court (December 2004), and Justus-Liebig Universittät Giessen, Hessen International Summer University, German (July – August 2005).
